LATEST BLACK AFFAIRS COMMITTEE SUMMARY

The Black Affairs Committee, led by the Black Affairs Commissioner and Coordinator, represents a significant step in institutionalizing support for Black students at McGill University. This pivotal position advocates for the equity and inclusion of Black students on campus, facilitating events, workshops, campaigns, and various advocacy initiatives.

To ensure adequate representation, the Black Affairs Commissioner convenes a monthly committee featuring representatives from all Black student groups and services. These meetings address ongoing challenges, identify solutions, and seek support from the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU). Starting in Fall 2022, the Committee has been funded through a mandatory and historic student levy, reflecting the commitment of McGill’s student body to enhance the Black student experience and foster an inclusive campus environment.
